Qualitative study: experiences, barriers and facilitators to physical activity maintenance for people with persistent musculoskeletal and potential characteristics of a support package.
Qualitative study: experiences, barriers and facilitators to physical activity maintenance for people with persistent musculoskeletal and potential characteristics of a support package.
We will interview people with persistent musculoskeletal pain that have completed pain management programmes and healthcare professionals that work on pain management programmes (e.g., physiotherapists, occupational therapists and psychologists). We aim to interview about 25 people with persistent musculoskeletal pain and about 12 healthcare professionals. We will ask the participants with persistent musculoskeletal pain if they would like to a joint interview with someone who supports them with physical activity or who they do physical activity with (“physical activity partners”).
We will explore the experiences, barriers and facilitators to keeping up physical activity for people with persistent musculoskeletal pain after a pain management programme and identify potential characteristics of a support package for keeping up physical activity.
The barriers and facilitators identified in the interviews will be used to design the survey for the longitudinal study in work package 2. The support package characteristics will help with designing the support package in work package 3.
